    The so-called mirror electric discharge machining technology mainly utilizes the electric erosion effect generated by the pulse discharge between the two poles immersed in the working fluid to remove conductive materials. During the operation, the tool electrode and the workpiece will be connected to the two poles of the pulse power supply and immersed in the working fluid, or the working fluid will be charged into the discharge gap.

    The principle of mirror discharge machining as precision machining

    Then, the gap automatic control system controls the tool electrode to feed towards the workpiece. When the gap between the two electrodes reaches a certain distance, the pulse voltage applied to the two electrodes breaks down the working fluid, generating spark discharge. Due to the instantaneous concentration of a large amount of thermal energy in the discharge microchannels, it can immediately melt and vaporize trace amounts of metal materials on the working surface.

    At the same time, melted and vaporized metal materials will explosively splash into the working fluid, rapidly condense, form solid metal particles, and be carried away by the working fluid. At this point, a small pit mark is left on the surface of the workpiece, and the discharge briefly stops, restoring the insulation state of the working fluid between the two electrodes.

    The next pulse voltage in mirror EDM breaks down at another point where the two electrodes are relatively close, generating spark discharge and repeating the above process. In this way, although the amount of metal removed by each pulse discharge is very small, due to the thousands of pulse discharges per second, more metal can be removed, which has a certain productivity.
